These sessions are suitable for complete beginners who feel they would perhaps like to make their first steps into picturing plants for themselves. No artistic experience is required, rather a desire to look at the natural world and plants in particular and make a personal visual record of what you see and feel for yourself and to share it with others if you would like to.
Absolutely everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy learning together in an atmosphere of discovery and fun and hopefully finding out just how great it can be to use simple techniques to get some surprising results.

EXAMPLE SESSION - Plan for the day at Arcadia Garden
10:00 -10:45
Arrive at Arcadia Garden and spend some time exploring the site with Charlotte and Alison, meet the others in the group for the day and have coffee/tea.
10:45 -11:00
Return to the garden and find a place you particularly like, it could be a small grouping of plants, a larger area of planting or perhaps a view in or out of the space or maybe even a single plant.
11-00 -12:00
We will be working towards making a series of images using your chosen subject exploring shape, colour and texture through a range of media and techniques.
Two- minute and five-minute sketches or ‘snapshots’ will be followed by two longer 15-minute ones allowing more detail to be captured if required.
12:00 – 12:30 Lunch (please bring a packed lunch) coffee, teas and cold drinks will be provided.
12:30 -14:30
Together the group will choose flowers and foliage from the garden which they would like to portray as an arrangement or group of smaller arrangements.
Working in small groups we will spend this time experimenting with different ways of depicting plants in closer detail, building on individual skills and discovering new ones. Work towards a finished piece or a series of images.
14:30-15.00
Group feedback and display of work
